Matthew McIver's career spans over 25 years in technology-related industries. He began as a design technologist with Cincinnati Milacron, a US machine tool and robotics manufacturer. In 1985, he founded Threshold Electronics, a product and systems development company. Threshold has been associated with a number of successful, high-profile projects, including the development of the world-renowned Laser Quest product.

Following the acquisition of Threshold Electronics by Versent Corporation in January 1997, the entire operation was moved from the United Kingdom to Ontario, Canada, where Matthew continued as president of the company. In early 1998, he assembled a leadership team and directed the company's entrance into the financial services market, ultimately repositioning Threshold to be one of Canada's leading providers of payments processing and related services. A new corporate identity was launched and the company was renamed Threshold Financial Technologies.
