That we believe in investing in the people we take onboard is obvious right at the start. S1’s comprehensive orientation programme aims to get new staff up and running as quickly as possible, while also instilling in them a sense of our past, our values and our organizational culture. Held in Cape Town’s Training Centre, the full-time programme varies in length according to attendees’ roles but typically runs to about four weeks.
Subjects range widely and include: the company, our products and how we market ourselves; the local operation and our infrastructure, policies, procedures and benefits; the business environment that our clients operate in; and the systems and technologies that underpin it all. Engineers go on to explore the deep workings of our world-class products and how they are developed.
Mentorship
Once newbies leave the classroom, an integrated mentorship programme helps them settle into their new roles. Designated mentors integrate recruits into their teams and actively support them as they take on new tasks. Mentors are available to answer all those questions new employees have and to address any difficulties as soon as they are encountered.

On-going skills development
Recruits will, in time, also take advantage of the regular internal supplementary courses we offer, presented by our world-class instructors or invited external parties. And they’re encouraged to keep an eye out for suitable external training too!
| At S1, each employee has an annual personal development budget from which they can fund this training. As a part of our performance management system, employees, with their managers, pinpoint areas of potential skills development, and can then research and motivate for external courses that will help them meet those goals. All of this is aimed at helping you keep your skills razor-sharp and even branch out into new areas of expertise.
